This past weekend was the Guide’s Training Seminar up at Grand Canyon. During the short breaks between presentations, Ryan and I and a couple friends were able to run over to the rim and get some climbing in. (Okay, okay, I admit it: we “missed” a handful of the presentations. Can you blame us??) Look at this view…
Even this pic from my phone gives a little taste of the beauty & grandeur of this place. Can you spot Ryan on the cliff?
While all the presentations were informative and interesting, the topic that really hit home was that of the proposed Escalade Project on the East Rim. Though this project wasn’t news to any of us, seeing the plans and graphics of the proposed amenities scarring the landscape made me nauseous and angry. If you haven’t checked it out, click here. And then sign the petition to stop this travesty.
On Sunday morning, I got up in the dark and walked to the rim. As the sun slowly creeped over the horizon, I snapped some pictures. Let’s protect this.
